Two arrested for stealing N1.2m batteries from Etisalat site

Police in Ogun State have arrested two suspects who broke into the property of communication giant, Etisalat, and stole heavy duty batteries worth about N1.2million.

The suspects, Bashiru Jelili and Madu Nwete, were arrested on Saturday following a tip-off about their activities and hideout.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta.

Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the two men broke into an Etisalat site in Isara-Remo, Remo Local Government Area, and stole eight heavy duty batteries.

According to him, the suspects sold the stolen items to one Obinna who is now at large.

He said: “They have earlier broken into the site of the communication giant where the heavy duty batteries were stolen and sold to one Obinna who is now at large.

“Investigation revealed that the said Obinna is known for receiving stolen properties in the area.

“Immediately the case was reported, the DPO Isara Division detailed detectives to unravel the identity of whoever was behind the dastardly act.

“Their efforts led to the arrest of the two suspects who had made confessional statements.”
