50th Anniversary: Kwara grants tax relief to SMEs

As part of effort to encourage small business owners and eradicate poverty in the state, Kwara State Governor, Dr Abdulfatah Ahmed has directed the state's revenue service to put in motion a five year tax relief regime for small business owners.

According to the governor, the five years tax relief regime is imperative in order to allow for economic growth and development of the state.

Senate wants lower Naira notes changed to coins

The Central Bank of Nigeria should convert the country’s lower currency notes into coins to facilitate “highly repetitive” retail transactions, the Senate said Tuesday.

The advice came after a Senator spoke on the implications of rejection of the existing coin denominations for the economy.

Buhari will win 2019 election if he contests – Presidency

President Muhammadu Buhari will win the 2019 election if he seeks re-election, the presidency has said.

Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant on media and publicity to the president, said this on Tuesday while addressing journalists at the presidential villa, Abuja.

Mr. Shehu, who was joined by Femi Adesina, special adviser on media and publicity to the president, and Laolu Akande, spokesperson to acting President Yemi Osinbajo, said Nigerians were happy with Mr. Buhari and would still vote for him.

“The confidence reposed in Buhari by ordinary Nigerians had remained unshaken because the president, according to him, is doing what they want,” he said.

Drama in Jos court as accused, threatens to kill witnesses

Justice Rifkatu Sha of Jos High Court on Tuesday warned an accused person, Tasiu Mohammed, 21, against threatening witnesses testifying against him.

The warning came when Mohammed was caught making gestures indicating that he would slash the throats of  the witnesses, while they stood in the dock.

Greater Manchester Police did not immediately confirm the suspect's identity.

Zamfara govt assembles 500 Qur’anic reciters to pray for Buhari, Nigeria

The Zamfara Government said on Tuesday it had assembled 500 reciters of the Holy Qur’an to offer special prayers for the well-being of President Muhammadu Buhari and the country.

Lawal Liman, the state’s Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau that the Islamic scholars were drawn from the 14 local government areas of the state.

Nigeria police fire teargas, spray hot water on protesters

Police on Monday sprayed hot water and fired tear gas sporadically to disperse protesting members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria at the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, office in Maitama, Abuja.
