The Department of State Security (DSS), on Tuesday,
presented a video evidence at the FCT High Court, Lugbe, showing where
Femi Otedola was seen giving out a parcel to Hon. Farouq Lawan.
Justice Angela Otaruku granted the request of the prosecuting
counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo (SAN), to play the video, which lasted for
almost three minutes, as evidence of Lawan collecting the said bribe
from Otedola.
NAN reports that the request was made as Awomolo led the DSS
Prosecutor, David Ojataha, Principal Officer in-charge of Technical
Operations, DSS in evidence.

Court declares Rivers rerun election panel ‘unconstitutional’
A Federal High Court in Abuja has declared a 15-member panel that
investigated violations during the December 10, 2016 Rivers State
election rerun, “unconstitutional”.
In a lengthy ruling on Tuesday, the judge, Gabriel Kolawole, said the composition of the panel was not known to law.
The panel was raised by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to probe allegations of violations and violence during the legislative re-run elections.
The team had personnel from the State Security Service, SSS.

‘The Voice’ drops 2Baba as coach, picks Yemi Alade as replacement
Nigerian female artist Yemi Alade will replace Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2baba as coach in the second season of M-net music reality show, `The Voice Nigeria.’
According to the M-net West Africa team, 2Baba has left the show to pursue other commitments which has prompted the need for a new coach.

The chairman of Capital Oil and Gas limited, Andy Ubah has described
his arrest by the Department of State Services as a complete attempt to
blackmail him.
The oil magnate said the claim by the DSS that he was involved in theft of petrol kept by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, in his tank farm in Lagos was a wrong accusation.
The agency on Friday picked up Ubah over his connection with the missing petroleum product, which was valued at over N11bn.
The department said Ubah’s action amounted to economic sabotage, with “capacity to negatively impact on national economy”.

The National Assembly has raised the 2017 appropriation bill by over
N143bn, up from President Muhammadu Buhari’s original proposal of
N7.298tn. The new figure of the budget is now N7.441tn.

‘Herdsmen’ attack Benue communities, kill eight — Police
Eight persons were feared dead following an attack by suspected herdsmen, on two villages in Logo Local Government Area of Benue state, a Police statement said.
Police spokesperson for Benue State, Moses Yamu, confirmed the attacks in a statement on Monday.
Mr. Yamu said the attacks on Akaa and Tse-Orlalu villages in Mbamar, Ugondo communities, were perpetrated by suspected herdsmen late on Sunday.

Two nabbed for producing fake voters’ cards
Operatives of the Assistant Inspector-General of Police’ (AIG) Zone 2 command, Onikan, have arrested two persons for allegedly manufacturing fake Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC).
The suspects, Arrey Aberdeen, 33, and Giwa Monsuru were arrested by the Zonal Intervention Squad (ZIS) after they got a tip-off about their activities.According to the police zonal spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a decoy policewoman was used to get the suspects. She said the woman approached Monsuru, claiming that she desperately needed a PVC in order to assist Internet fraudster collect money from the bank.

ordered herdsmen, operating within the university community to relocate
their cattle from the campus within two weeks.
Mr. Essien, who made the call at a meeting with the herdsmen, led by their head, Farouk Miyetti Allah, in Uyo on Monday, said that the action would prevent cattle from constituting a nuisance to the environment.

According to a statement by the university’s Director of Public Relations, Godfrey Essien, the vice-chancellor said that the order became imperative as part of efforts to promote peace and unity on the university campus.
