A major incident is underway at Amsterdam's central train station after a car ploughed into pedestrians.
Five people were injured and the driver of the car was being interrogated by police after trying to run from the scene.
Photos
and video posted online show victims being treated as they lay on the
floor and several ambulances and police cars at the scene.
The incident happened at about 9pm local time after the car drove into a pedestrian area where vehicles are not allowed.
After ploughing into pedestrians the car smashed into a
concrete barrier and the driver tried to flee as officers approached,
local media reported.
The driver was arrested by police and taken to a station for questioning.
Police
said two of the victims were taken to hospital for treatment while the
other three were treated by paramedics at the scene.
The cause of the crash, which happened in the square in front of the station, was not revealed.
One
witness wrote on Twitter: "Someone just ran into 10 people near
Amsterdam Central Station, exactly where my exchange group was.
"Who would have known what could have happened if we decided to show up a few minutes later."
