An Igbo youth group has urged the Federal Government to be bold and address the fundamental truth about the Nigerian situation. Through a statement signed by Evangelist Elliot Ugochukwu-Uko, Secretary of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, the group has reacted to the scheduling of a joint meeting between Northern and Eastern leaders with Acting President, Yemi Osibanjo, for June 22.
While noting that a constitution put in place by the military and neglecting a lot of our diversity as a nation can no longer work for Nigeria, the group said it is high time Nigeria found a workable solution to the issues that leaves one or section of the country feeling marginalised.
“Everybody pretends that a few appointments thrown to eastern politicians will assuage the agitators. The political class are excited at the opportunity of using the blood of these agitators to achieve political accommodation and the beat goes on. As the leaders gather on June 22 to prevaricate with platitudes as usual, the divide gets only deeper, the anger spreads wider, and the elite club congratulates themselves for another choreographed deception successfully pulled off.
The crack in the foundation of the country would only continue to get worse until we stop lying to ourselves. The malignant tumor has grown so big that only a surgical operation can remove it now,” the statement reads.
