DSS bursts Boko Haram cell; arrests commandant, 20 others in Kano

A  special operation undertaken by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano has led to the arrest of over 20 Boko Haram fighters including their unit commandant (names withheld).

DSS Director in Kano, Alhassan Muhammad, who confirmed the development, said the commandant and his followers are helping them with useful information.

Muhammad said the operation was carried out jointly with  the police and his men on Sunday which netted the Boko Haram unit commander who is in charge of Kano, Kaduna and Sokoto cells of the terror group.

The director explained that the commander was arrested alongside 20 other suspects while planning coordinated attacks during Sallah festivities in Kano and other major Northern cities.

“We have in our custody about 20 suspected Boko Haram terrorists, including a sector commandant, whom we  arrested at Rijiyar Zaki and Dorayi areas of Kano over two days,” he said.

The Director added that the arrest of the commander has dealt a heavy blow on plans by the terrorists to conducted major operations in and around Kano.
