President Muhammadu Buhari will on Sundaynight jet out to London for follow-up medical consultation with his doctors.
The news was contained in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President, Femi Adesina.
Adesina said Buhari had
planned to leave in the afternoon on Sunday, but had to wait to receive
the 82 Chibok schoolgirls, who were freed by their Boko Haram
abductors.
The statement said:
“The President wishes to assure all Nigerians that there is no cause for
worry. He is very grateful for the prayers and good wishes of the
people, and hopes they would continue to pray for the peace and unity of
 the nation.”
However, there was no timeline for the return of the President.
Adesina said this would be determined by Bihari’s doctors.
He said: “The length of
the President’s stay in London will be determined by the doctors. Government will continue to function normally under the able leadership
of the Vice President.”
Buhari was said to have
transmitted letters about the trip to the Senate and the House of
Representatives in compliance with Section 145 (1) of the 1999
Constitution.
The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, will act in his place.
