Police Smash Exam Syndicate Attempting to Hack JAMB Website

Eighteen male suspects are being quizzed by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for attempted exam malpractices during the just concluded JAMB examinations held nationwide. The men were arrested on Monday 15th May, 2017 in a rented apartment at No.13, Lutheran Road, Ikot Ekpene, while trying to hack into JAMB Website to have access to exam questions.

Reps Commence Investigation into Jon-Ode Arms Probe Panel

Barring any further hitches, the Joint Committee of House of Representatives investigating the Jon-Ode led Presidential Arms Probe Panel will commence the public hearing on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja.

The Chairman Public Safety, National Security and Intelligence, Hon. Aminu Sani Jaji told PRNigeria that said arrangements have been concluded to conduct the hearing.

Late Aminu Kano’s wife Shatu, dies at 89

Hajiya Shatu Aminu Kano, Wife of the late Malam Aminu Kano, is dead.

Alhaji Aminu Kabara, a grandson to the deceased, who made the announcement, said Shatu died at the age of 89 on Sunday night after a prolonged illness.

U.S. govt. immortalises late Nigerian student

he United States embassy in Nigeria has instituted a $20,000 grant in memory of Usman John-Paul, a final-year student of the University of Ilorin who died during a visit to the U.S.

Mr. John-Paul drowned in a water fall on June 25, 2016 while on Mandela Washington Fellowship in the United States.

The U.S embassy also donated books worth about $20,000 to the university’s library.

The embassy’s counselor on public affairs, Aruna Amirthanayagam, who disclosed this during a visit to the university, said the books and the prize were for young Nigerians working in the areas of Mr. John-Paul’s interest, namely Peace, Child Rights and Sustainable Development.

The diplomat described Mr. John-Paul as a young man who spent a short but meaningful life having been a child parliamentarian, a UNESCO prize winner and model student, who was on the Mandela fellowship at the time of his demise.

The U.S Fellowship, he disclosed, is awarded annually to 1,000 students in Africa, including 100 Nigerian Students.

Mr. Amirthanayagam, who was accompanied by the embassy’s coordinator of the Mandela Fellowship, Diran Adegoke, condoled with the family of Mr. John-Paul and the university.

He said the late Mr. John-Paul epitomised multiple talents and leadership qualities and advised students to join the Young African Leaders Initiative Network online for several benefits that await them.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, AbdulGaniyu Ambali, said the university community believed that the demise of Mr. John-Paul was a divine call, which every soul has to answer at the appointed time.

He, however, maintained that the sad occurrence would not dampen the spirit behind the relationship between the university and the United States.

The Supreme Court has dismissed an application filed by a factional leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ali-Modu Sheriff, asking the court not to hear a motion by his challenger, Ahmed Makarfi.

Mr. Sheriff had asked the court to refuse hearing on the application filed by Mr. Makarfi, challenging the February 17 judgement of the Appeal Court in Port Harcourt which made Mr. Sheriff leader of the PDP.

Electricity company announces five-day power outage in Lagos

Electricity supply would be disrupted in many parts of Lagos this week as Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) on Monday announced five days power outage in the city.

EKEDC spokesman, Godwin Idemudia, said in a statement that the outage would affect Ikoyi, Victoria Island and parts of Lagos Island from Wednesday to Sunday.

Nigerian Army arrests 17 deadly, well-armed cultists

The 2 Brigade Nigeria Army says it has arrested 17 cultists with assorted arms and ammunition in Oku Iboku, Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom.

A statement signed by Capt. Shuaib Umar, spokesman of the brigade, and made available to newsmen on Sunday in Uyo, said the arrest followed a successful raid on hideouts of armed cultists at Oku and Itu bridges.

APC leaders have hijacked EFCC –Yari

Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF), Abdulaziz Yari, at the weekend said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has been hijacked by certain forces in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Yari, who is the governor of Zamfara State and at the centre of the $3 million allegedly used to build a 100-room hotel in Lagos, said the target of the EFCC probe of the Paris Club refund was not him, but President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade.
